“All the world’s a stage.” - William Shakespeare
“Strike that. Reverse it.” – Willy Wonka
You are thrilled not just by what is in the scene, but by all that a scene implies about the world in which it takes place. Breaking into a vault? You see the network of air shafts used to get in and out of the bank, the guards in the security room sleeping in front of the CCTV, and the escape vehicle parked out back. Did a character enter your scene with an unusually bouncy gait? Your scene is on the moon now. No– the show is on the moon now. The moon of another planet. And there’s an intergalactic war and you’re a soldier and you’ve crash-landed here and the universe is in peril unless you can fix your ship.
